Hong Kong Hotels Control Bill
we have to confirm the telephone conversation which we had with Mr. Wallace this morning, and, as arranged, expected to hear further from you with an appointment this afternoon for the purpose of making representations for the postponement or the operation of the above Bill which we understand becomes effective tomorrow. Not having heard from you with an appointment we telephoned you again this afternoon at 3.50 p.m. and were told that there was no reply from the appropriate department.
We have received urgent cables from Hong Kong to the effect that if the Bill is to be in operation as from tomorrow (the 8th instant) it will cause untold chaos in the Hotel trade in Hong Kong. we are instructed to engage the services of Leading Counsel to respectfully plead for a temporary delay in the operation of the bill, and should be glad of an opportunity of making such submissions as we are advised are necessary. Je have copies of the Petition referred to in our p.evious letters, and can produce a copy if it will assist at this stage.
